- Consumers who have gotten used to a certain lifestyle may take drastic measures to maintain that lifestyle, even when the economy tanks. It’s not exactly ethical, since most company’s ask for 100% engagement, but some white-collar workers are finding a way to double up on their work hours (CNN.com 9.23.08). Since they work all day with computers and PDA’s anyway, they find it easy to secretly toggle between two jobs.
- Work-work balance? Business coach John McKee says daylighting is on the rise, especially among younger workers who aren’t especially challenged by their regular day jobs, and among older employees who are trying to maintain the income level of their salad days.
WHAT THIS MEANS TO BUSINESS
- Free Agency is one thing, but bending the rules is quite another. Still, sometimes consumers need flexibility for personal reasons, and they’re increasingly looking out for number one.
- More savvy employees will get permission from their bosses to double-dip, as long as they continue to excel in their position.
- We’ve mentioned that many workers are having their hours cut back. Naturally, they’re looking for ways to maintain their prospects.
