WHAT’S HAPPENING
- The private jet set is turning to online jetshare communities as a means to trim the cost of luxury travel.
- Jet-It-Together, Private Jet Share, LuckyJets and Private Jet Club are examples of free jetshare communities. Members can search for and be alerted to like-destined travelers who want to share the cost of a private jet (Jet-It-Together.com 7.09).
- Jet-It-Together negotiates the cost of a trip with a pool of charter companies, while Private Jet Club merely provides a forum for jetters to convene — flight arrangements are up to individual members (PrivateJetClub.com 7.09).
- Unlike partial jet ownership and jet card programs, online jetshare communities cost nothing unless a flight is booked (GolfDigest.com 7.06).
WHAT THIS MEANS TO BUSINESS
- They may be on a slightly higher plane, but nonetheless cost-conscious jetsetters are on board with sparing benjamins without a noticeable loss of luxury or flexibility.
- Savvy spenders are leveraging their online and offline networks to maximize the splash from their cash.
