Hissip equals Hispanic plus gossip

WHAT’S HAPPENING

  • Perez Hilton may be the top Latino gossip blogger, but he doesn’t cover the Latino gossip scene like Hissip, a site enthusiastically spreading the chisme (gossip) about famous and not-so-famous Latino celebs on both sides of the border, the Caribbean and Spain.
  • Taking its name by merging Hispanic and gossip, Hissip is not limited to updates on drunken spectacles and baby bumps. It also features fashion and style content, as well as interviews with up-and-coming Latino stars (TrendCentral.com 8.5.09).
  • While the site covers perennial icons like Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Alba and Mariah Carey, cable TV princesses like Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Victoria Justice see plenty of Hissip action, without the snark.

WHAT THIS MEANS TO BUSINESS

  • Latino hunger for hot gossip isn’t limited to what’s heard among friends or on Spanish-language TV. Biculturals like to keep up with the lives, loves and threads of home-country celebs as well as their U.S.-based counterparts.
